Discover the farmland birds of Porlock Vale

An opportunity to visit the idyllically situated Bossington Farm, north of Porlock, with its spectacular views out across Porlock Bay is on offer and a chance to enjoy a joint Exmoor National Park Authority/National Trust walk. The farm supports a wealth of wildlife ranging from farmland birds such as yellowhammer, bullfinch and linnet, and some fascinating rare arable weeds with intriguing names such as weasel snout!

On Thursday 29 May 2008, there is a special guided walk around the farm kindly led by tenant Michael Dyer to learn more about the work he has been carrying out to encourage the wildlife on his farm. The network of hedges on his farm has been a focus of interest for this work and birds and other wildlife have been especially encouraged into the wild unmanaged headlands.

Anyone who would like to come on this walk should telephone Bea Davis on 01398 323665 or e-mail bdavis@exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk  Event runs from 2pm – 4 pm and people should wear suitable outdoor clothing and sturdy footwear.  The event and refreshments are free, but donations to CareMoor for Exmoor, the National Park Authority’s environmental support fund, are welcome.
