On Friday 26 August a series of events to celebrate the finale of the Dig Dulverton project will be held at Exmoor House in Dulverton and everyone is welcome.

Local residents and visitors alike have taken part in the various Dig Dulverton events that have been held over recent months including excavations at Exmoor House and in private gardens throughout the town.  On Friday 26 August at a drop-in event from 12 – 12.50pm and 1.30 to 3pm, people will be able to catch up with what has been discovered and staff from the Portable Antiquities Scheme will be on hand to discuss some of the artefacts that were found. There will also be a chance to look at the historic maps and plans of the town and find out about the hidden historic buildings.
At 12.50 there will be a talk from Mary Siraut from Somerset Victoria County History and Rob Wilson-North from Exmoor National Park Authority, which will bring together the conclusions of the Dig Dulverton project explaining what has been learnt about the history of the town.
A free guided walk entitled ‘Dieglaford – the evolution of the settlement of Dulverton’ will be a chance to see the town first hand with an expert looking at the historic sources, sites and buildings.  The walk, which will be suitable for wheelchair users, leaves Exmoor House at 2pm and everyone is welcome.
Rob Wilson-North, head of the historic environment team at the National Park, said: “The response from everyone who has enjoyed the various events held as part of Dig Dulverton has been fantastic and we do hope that as many people as possible are able to come along and find out what we have discovered about the town.”
