Children and Volunteers help in Dulverton Churchyard
Volunteers at Dulverton Dulverton churchyard is looking even better following the Dulverton Churchyard Community Development Group’s successful application for funding for training from the Community Spaces at the Big Lottery Fund.
Volunteers from Exmoor Conservation Volunteers Partnership and children from Dulverton Middle School were given training to repair the drystone walls in the terraces of the churchyard and training was also offered to a number of other people who wanted to learn this ancient craft. Ivan Gunn from the Dulverton Churchyard Development Group said: “It was good to see so many people enjoying enhancing their skills - the churchyard is always open and people are welcome to come and see the good work that has been done.”
Mr. Gunn continued: “It has been a real working partnership between All Saints Church, Dulverton Town Council and the National Park Authority and we have all been particularly impressed with the way that the National Park has chipped in to help.
“We were delighted to have been awarded this funding to enable us to train people in the work needed to enhance our churchyard and giving them the opportunity to learn a new skill. We are grateful to the Community Spaces fund and the Exmoor Conservation Volunteers Partnership for their help in setting this up and for loaning us some of the equipment.”
The event was co-ordinated by Patrick Watts-Mabbott from the National Park and anyone interested in volunteering work should contact Patrick on 07973727469.
