TV advert showcases Exmoor

The Exmoor Tourism Partnership has launched what is thought to be the very first TV advert promoting tourism within the Exmoor area.

The advert plays on the fact that, often whilst loving our home area we can all sometimes take it for granted. It features an actor playing a local character sharing his views on Exmoor which are interspersed with stunning shots of the inspiring Exmoor landscape and the opportunities afforded to all within it, finishing with an invitation for viewers to discover and explore Exmoor for themselves.

Produced by Adrian Holloway of Devon based Singular Productions the advert features several of the wonders of Exmoor from beauty spots such as the Valley of Rocks and Tarr Steps to activities and attractions including pony trekking, mountain biking and heritage railways as well as highlighting the local food and drink opportunities against a background of moorland scenes.

The advert will be aired throughout the rest of the month and into September on targeted digital and Freeview channels including Yesterday, Blighty and the Food and Drink network. With audiences of up to 100,000 seeing the advert each time it’s aired it is estimated that over 2 million viewings will be achieved to help boost tourism in the area. It can also be viewed on www.visit-exmoor.co.uk.

“In the past TV advertising has only been available to larger destinations but with the increase in digital channels more flexible opportunities have become available and working together through the Exmoor Tourism Partnership we were keen to test this area” Said Dan James, Sustainable Economy Officer at Exmoor National Park Authority. “It was a challenge to showcase Exmoor in just 30 seconds in a way that would capture people’s imagination but we hope that the humorous approach taken in the advert will do the trick. It certainly demonstrates what a fabulous landscape the National Park and surrounding area have to offer along with the opportunities to enjoy them in different ways.”

Earlier in the month Exmoor launched its own currency to help visitors gain added value and benefit from significant savings during a visit to Exmoor. The scheme, which has attracted national press coverage, runs to the end of October initially and Guineas can be downloaded free of charge from www.visit-exmoor.co.uk where the list of current offers can be seen.

“Whilst Exmoor isn’t alone in facing a challenge for tourism this year we hope that these initiatives will give a welcome boost to traders in the area” Said Evelyn Stacey, Chairman of the Exmoor Tourism Partnership. “Working collaboratively has allowed us to maximise our resources and punch well above our weight showcasing Exmoor as a quality destination.”
