UK National Parks 'Actively Yours' photo competition offers chance to win Merrell footwear

You can feel it, can't you? It's time to get outside. It's time to explore. You've seen the walls of your house, your office, your local. Now it's time to see something new: your UK National Parks.

This year's UK National Parks photo competition (18 March - 26 April) is aimed at offering an incentive to do just that. Free and open to everyone, year-round, the 15 members of the National Park family are home to some of the most diverse and inspiring landscapes in the country -- plenty of motivation to get out and about. But thanks to partner Merrell, photographers of all skill levels can also win top quality outdoor footwear.

The theme of this year's photo competition is, 'National Parks: Actively Yours'. The UK's National Parks are, of course, home to Britain's breathing spaces, but they are also home to vibrant and unique communities, and their beauty is preserved through the hard work of hundreds of volunteers. People play a huge and important role in the National Parks, and judges of this year's competition are keen to see that represented. They want to see people actively enjoying their National Parks.

But don't think that means we expect you to go scaling a mountain. What it means to be active can be defined in any number of ways. Sure, it could mean coasteering in Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, or hiking the vastness of Northumberland National Park. But it can also mean stargazing in Exmoor National Park or lazily paddling through the Broads. It could mean skiing in the Cairngorms, or picnicking in the South Downs. Activity is what you make it.

We've put a few helpful suggestions and tips on the National Parks website (www.nationalparks.gov.uk/2013nationalparksweek-photo-comp) but the most important thing to remember is that the picture must be of people within the boundaries of one of the 15 members of the National Park family.

The winner of the Actively Yours photo competition will receive his or her choice of footwear from outdoor expert Merrell.

Entries will be accepted from 18 March to 26 April, 2013, so you're encouraged to get out and get snapping as soon as possible. And photographers of all skill levels are encouraged to take part.
