Porlock Apple Press & Rural Crafts Festival

Date: 19th Oct 2019 10:00am-4:00pm
A fun, apple themed event, with something for all ages. A look back to old country crafts... centred around our 1862 'Somerset Pattern' apple press which will be in action pressing many tons of apples into fresh juice for you to taste and take away. There's lots to learn, especially for the young ones - the reason why apples were such an important part of the rural economy, bees and their importance etc, are just some of the topics explained. Old rural crafts such as wool spinning and weaving, blacksmithing, basket weaving, woodland crafts etc, demonstrated. Also some incredibly skilled, local artisan crafts persons demonstrating their skills and selling their wares. A brilliant opportunity to find some really unique Christmas presents too! Loads of home made appley cakes, pies, jams, chutneys, a fantastic hog-roast, appley soups, tea & coffee means you don't even need to bring a packed lunch. Add to this some hearty singing of a cider song (you can join in too!), Birds of prey, vintage engines and machinery in action... plus much more... means a brilliant day out for all the family. The best bit..... IT'S FREE! On-site loos and parking is only 150yds away. Loads more information at our website
