Wimbleball’s Dark Skies With Seb Jay (author of ‘Exmoor Dark Skies’)

13th Dec 2016 18:30 - 20:00

Highlights include: Seeing the December full moon through a telescope Learning how to find Mars in the December night sky Find star clusters thousands of light years away with a telescope See a red supergiant on the verge of collapsing into a supernova! Format: CLEAR NIGHT – We’ll gather everyone in the ACTIVITY CENTRE BARN for a short 20-minute talk to prep them on what they are looking out for in the night sky at the event with a bit of background detail. For this part I’ll bring a projector, screen etc. We’ll then head outside to the area adjacent to the activity centre overlooking the lake. It’ll likely be too bright to make use of the laser pointer, but we’ll have telescopes set up outside. Telescopes in situ for people to use. CLOUDY / WET NIGHT – Location: ACTIVITY CENTRE BARN for a longer illustrated talk on what you can see from Wimbleball Lake at this time of year, On to this we’ll add an orbits activity to demonstrate why we have a full moon that night, and I’ll also bring along a ‘build a constellation’ activity. Plus an alien hunt! Seb will also be signing and selling copies of his book, plus astronomy gift vouchers –ideal Christmas presents!
