Ash Fraxinus excelsior

Probably it's most distinguishing feature are the coal black buds; most other ash species have brown or grey buds. It is native throughout the British Isles.

Because of the timber's high flexibility and shock resistance it has been a traditional material for tool handles. It is a excellent firewood and can be burnt unseasoned as it has a naturally low moisture content.
