Brendon
Brendon is a large parish within the Devon section of the National Park. The village straggles along the southern bank of the East Lyn River. As a civil parish it is combined with Countisbury. It has a large common and several hamlets, including Rockford, Malmsmead and Cheriton. Its church is placed between settlements.

Meaning of place name: may come from the dedication of the church to the Irish St Brendan but more likely to come from Old English bremel dun = bramble-covered hill or even brown hill.
