Core Strategy Development Plan Document

The Core Strategy will set out Exmoor National Park Authority's spatial vision and over-arching objectives, including those for minerals and waste, together with targets for the development of affordable housing and of brownfield land. This document (and the accompanying Sustainability Appraisal) will be the central plank of the Local Development Framework and will incorporate broad aims for development and use of land within Exmoor National Park, which take account of environmental, economic and social issues, as well as the wise use of resources.

The Core Strategy will have regard to those aims of the sustainable community strategies (produced by North Devon and West Somerset District Councils) which relate to the development and use of land within the National Park.  A key document in preparing the Core Strategy will be the recently reviewed Exmoor National Park Management Plan 2007-2012.

The Policy and Community Team are currently undertaking research and fact-finding to produce a robust evidence base which will underpin the Core Strategy. Participation with stakeholders and the local community will also form a significant part of the evidence base for the Core Strategy. Stakeholder consultation events are programmed for the end of the year and local community consultation during the Spring 2009.  Further information will be made available on this web page nearer the time.
