Help us to celebrate Exmoor’s special hedgerows

An opportunity to get involved in an exciting new survey of Exmoor’s hedgerows is on offer this summer. Hedgerows on Exmoor help define the character of this distinctive area and are a vital part of the tapestry of its landscape. Exmoor National Park Authority is looking for volunteers who can give up a few days over the summer to survey local hedgerows for animal signs, trees, flowers and historical features

Free training is being offered at 2 venues on Exmoor: on Thursday 5 June at  Parracombe Village Hall and on Friday 6 June at Exford Village Hall with both events running from 10am – 3pm. The training day will be an informative day introducing participants to the nationally recognised methodology for surveying hedgerows and will consist of an indoor morning session followed by a practical session outside in the afternoon. A free lunch of locally sourced produce will be provided.

Bea Davis from Exmoor National Park Authority said: We hope that following the training day people will sign up as hedgerow surveyors and undertake a few days survey work over the summer. We can pay for travel costs and volunteers will also receive a free copy of a wild flower book. The survey is being funded through Natural England and the results will help us gather vital information about the status of Exmoor’s wonderful hedgerows which will add to the national picture.”

To book a place on either of the training days or for further information, please contact Bea Davis on 01398 322288 or bdavis@exmoor-nationalpark.gov.uk
