Free guided tour of the Mineral Line

The opportunity to enjoy the first of a series of free guided tours of the old West Somerset Mineral Line is on offer next week.

On Wednesday 22 October the first guided tour will begin at 10am leaving from Ralegh’s Cross Inn, Brendon Hill, Somerset. The three hour walk will take in the Incline and Winding House, which is currently being conserved by Corbel Conservation Ltd under Jonathon Rhind Architects, as well as taking a behind the scenes look at the remnants of the old mine buildings.

Heritage Education Officer for the project Mary Olszewska said:  We are looking forward to showing people around the West Somerset Mineral Railway whilst it is being conserved. These guided tours will be a mix of walking and bus tours so we hope they will appeal to a wide range of people”.

The West Somerset Mineral Railway Project was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund last year to conserve and interpret the Mineral Line which was used in Victorian times to transport iron ore from the Brendon Hills to Watchet.

Places are limited so people wishing to come should book by calling 01398 323841 to avoid disappointment. Please note that walking or rubber boots are essential, and that the Incline is a 1 in 4 climb. Next month’s tour will be a bus tour on Thursday 13th November
