Mineral Line Drop In
Mineral Railway expert Mike Jones, who has been studying the West Somerset Mineral Line for the last fifty years, and West Somerset Mineral Railway members of staff will be on hand at an informal drop-in session on Wednesday 15th April, between 10am – 1pm to answer questions about this fascinating period of history.
Mary Olszewska, Heritage Education Officer said: "If you ever wondered whether an ancestor of yours worked on the West Somerset Mineral Railway, or if you have some Mineral Line memorabilia you would like to share, why not come along to the Mineral line drop-in session being held at Ralegh’s Cross Inn on the Brendon Hills, we would be be delighted to see you and there will be the opportunity to learn more about this important part of our local heritage."
The West Somerset Mineral Railway Project was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2007 to conserve and interpret the Mineral Line which was used in Victorian times to transport iron ore from the Brendon Hills to Watchet. Sites which are currently being conserved will be open to the general public this summer.
