The archaeology of the Mineral Line – a free lecture

Rob Wilson-North, Historic Environment Manager at Exmoor National Park Authority, and Mike Jones, a local historian who has spent the last fifty years researching the Mineral Line, will be giving a free illustrated talk on Thursday 12 February at Luxborough Village Hall.

They will be talking about the way in which the archaeology of the West Somerset Mineral Railway has been investigated, focusing particularly on the work completed by the Exmoor Mines Research Group in the 1990s.

The lecture will be taking place at 7.30pm, will last for approximately an hour and there will be refreshments available. To book a free place please call the Dulverton National Park Centre on 01398 323841.

This is part of a series of lectures exploring the history of the Mineral Line which will be taking place over the course of the year, and forms part of the West Somerset Mineral Railway Events Programme.

The West Somerset Mineral Railway Project was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2007 to conserve and interpret the Mineral Line which was used in Victorian times to transport iron ore from the Brendon Hills to Watchet.
