New Green Ambassador

Trish Bagshaw has been appointed Green Ambassadors project officer for the North Devon Area. Trish comes from the Calvert Trust where she led activities for a wide range of ability groups.

The Green Ambassadors project is a three way partnership between the Field Studies Council at Nettlecombe Court, Exmoor National Park Authority and North Devon Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) and is a geographical development of the successful project that the partnership embarked upon in Taunton and Bridgwater in 2006.

Exmoor National Park Authority education manager Dave Gurnett said: We are delighted to have secured funding from the Heritage Lottery Fund and Sustainable Development Fund panels of Exmoor National Park and North Devon AoNB to focus on activities for young people and community projects in the areas of Ilfracombe, Combe Martin and Lynton. .

Trish Bagshaw recently took students from the eco council and school council of Combe Martin Primary School on a day visit to Broomhill sculpture gardens to look at the installations and how artwork can be displayed in a natural environment. The youngsters were encouraged to draw pictures of things they liked and study artwork done by other school children on environmental issues.

After the trip they visited the site of their proposed community garden in Combe Martin to plan what they would like to see, make and grow there. Trish Bagshaw said: The young people were very excited about the prospect of designing their own space and are looking forward to working with the Green Ambassadors in the future. They have also visited Pinkery Centre for Outdoor Education where they learnt about survival in cold weather and took part in outdoor activities.”
