Free guided walks on the West Somerset Mineral Railway
As part of the ongoing series of events exploring the West Somerset Mineral Railway the project is offering free guided tours of the Old Mineral Line.
There are currently spaces left for the walk on Thursday 25th June and Tuesday 18th August. All walks begin at 10am at Ralegh’s Cross Inn. The three hour walk will take in the Incline and Winding House, which is currently being conserved by Corbel Conservation Ltd under Jonathon Rhind Architects, as well as taking a behind the scenes look at the remnants of the old mine buildings.
Heritage Education Officer for the project Mary Olszewska said: “Our guided tour volunteers do an excellent job of guiding people around the WSMR whilst it is being conserved, and we have had excellent feedback from people who have attended the tours in the past”.
The West Somerset Mineral Railway Project was awarded a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund in 2007 to conserve and interpret the Mineral Line which was used in Victorian times to transport iron ore from the Brendon Hills to Watchet.
Places are limited so call 01398 323841 to avoid disappointment. Please note that walking boots or Wellingtons are essential, and that the Incline is a 1 in 4 climb.
