EXMOOR COMES TO TOWN!
Young people in Bridgwater will have the opportunity to experience a little bit of Exmoor on Thursday 10 August when an Exmoor pony and a falconer visit the Hamp Re-Creation centre in Rhode Lane, Bridgwater.
The event is one of several activities that are part of Re-Creation Nature Week (7-11 August) organised by Heritage Ambassador Simon Hewett-Avison (funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund). The Heritage Ambassador initiative is a partnership between Exmoor National Park Authority, Quantocks AONB, Somerset Wildlife Trust and the Field Studies Council at Nettlecombe Court aimed at young people (13-20) who do not normally have the opportunity to explore and enjoy the rich natural habitat on their doorstep.
Les Riddle, Re-Creation centre manager says: “We are delighted to have the opportunity to work with this partnership and can see the benefit to our young people already.”
As part of the week’s activities the youngsters will also be taken on a Deer Safari with a Quantock AONB ranger, have some hands-on experience of green wood-working and visit an animal rescue centre and a working farm on Exmoor.
Dave Gurnett said: “We are really looking forward to bringing a bit of Exmoor to Bridgwater. The project is all about giving the youngsters better life opportunities through experiencing the countryside. The Heritage Ambassadors project will be planning more activities working with the Hamp community throughout the year.”
