Partnership creates the missing link

A vital ‘missing link’ in Exmoor’s bridleway network has been created thanks to a partnership between local landowner Nicky Gibbard, Exmoor National Park Authority and West Somerset Bridleways Association.

Mrs Gibbard has made the linking section of land a permitted bridleway for the public to use, whilst Exmoor National Park Authority field services team carried out the necessary works on the ground. This new bridleway means horse riders, walkers and cyclists no longer have to ride 700 metres of the fast main road from Timberscombe to Wheddon Cross where there are no verges.

West Somerset Bridleways Association's main aim is to improve riding for all and as a result they championed this key route through the Exmoor Rights of Way Improvement Plan. Chairman of the Bridleways Association Chris Binnie said “Mrs Gibbard has been the key person to unlock this route and we are most grateful to her for her generosity. This new bridleway increases safety for all and is most welcome”.
