Successful first year for CareMoor for Exmoor
Exmoor National Park Authority's environmental support fund, CareMoor for Exmoor, is now into its second year of fundraising following a hugely successful first twelve months.
During this time just over £5330 has been generated and two projects completed (dormouse nesting boxes constructed and archaeological tools purchased) with money in the bank ready for another two projects (stepping stones over a stream to aid access and a bat survey) to commence very soon.
Money has been raised in a variety of ways across Exmoor and beyond. Seven collection boxes including those located at Denes Guest House, Lynton; Halse Farm, Winsford; West Hollowcombe, Hawkridge; Withypool Post Office and Stores; and Porlock Visitor Centre raised £560. More boxes have now gone out and Sally Parish, CareMoor for Exmoor project co-ordinator, would like to hear from anyone who still has an Exmoor Paths Partnership box or would like a CareMoor for Exmoor collection box.
Over 50 Exmoor National Park Authority guided walks, events & talks that took place during CareMoor for Exmoor's first year added nearly £2000 to the total. Community groups and organisations including the Rotary Club of Exmoor, Minehead Running Club, and the organisers of the Exmoor Explorer event donated over £1500, whilst five businesses (Sparkhayes Campsite, Lynmouth Harbour Boat Trips, Jupiter Asset Management, Porlock Vale House and Brain Atkin) contributed almost £1270 either by making a donation, setting up an annual sponsorship, or contributing proceeds from sales of certain products or services.
Sally said "When we launched CareMoor for Exmoor I hoped to raise about £4000 in the first year so this is fantastic. Even more impressive is that since July this year we have raised over £2000 already so obviously other people believe in the project as much as we do."
