IRONMAN IS COMING
It's official, Exmoor and West Somerset have been chosen as the venue for the UK IRONMAN 70.3 Triathlon on Sunday 18th June 2006. This annually held prestigious event involves 1500 top-class athletes competing for 100 places in the IRONMAN 70.3 World Championship in Florida. Whilst the main event will be held at Wimbleball Lake in June, athletes will soon be coming to the West Somerset area to train and ‘acclimatise’ to the beautiful Exmoor surroundings. This should bring an extended ‘boost’ to the tourism industry that will be felt well before the event itself.
Exmoor National Park Authority and West Somerset District Council are working with the UK IRONMAN 70.3 event organisers to ensure the minimum of disruption for the area, and the maximum benefit. On Thursday 19th January 2006 an UK IRONMAN 70.3 information morning is being run for local businesses to learn more about the event and how best to cater for the competitors and their families. Triathletes have very specific requirements and well prepared businesses should be able to make the most of this event and attract competitors.
To make the most of the opportunities that this prestigious event will provide and to book a free place on the information morning on Thursday 19 January 2006 at Wimbleball Lake, businesses should contact Julie Lovett on 01398 322177.
