COLERIDGE WAY ON COUNTRYFILE

Exmoor played host to BBC’s Countryfile programme recently when presenter John Craven visited the area to cover the Coleridge Way and to celebrate 50 years of the Quantocks Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB).

The BBC television crew visited several locations along the 36 mile route of the Coleridge Way including Coleridge Cottage, where they spoke to Somerset County Council Archivist Tom Mayberry, Porlock Weir where they spoke to fisherman Derek Purvis and Dunster Path, near Webbers Post where Exmoor National Park Authority ecologist Alison Cox was interviewed.

Coleridge Way project officer Alan Martingell said: “The success of the Coleridge Way has given the local economy a boost and already created new businesses so hopefully further coverage of the route on a national television programme should continue to spread the word about what a great walk it is. We were very lucky with the weather and the views along the way were fantastic.”

The programme is due to be screened on the first or second Sunday of August.
