NATIONAL PARKS’ WEEK 2006
What does a canoe trail the The Broads, Hide and Seek the Exmoor Beast, Cycles, Solar Power on Loch Lomond and learning how to catch crabs on the Pembrokeshire Coast have in common? They are just a few of the exciting events on offer during National Park’s Week 21-28 July 2006.
The Week is a celebration of the diverse and beautiful nature of the National Parks in the UK and a chance for everyone who has spent the last few weeks watching football and tennis to pack up a picnic and get out into the countryside. For those who don’t want to join in an organised activity there is plenty more do to – go fishing or cycling, take a gentle walk or trek to the top of a mountain.
National Parks are large areas of land in England, Wales and Scotland designated from 1949 in order to protect beautiful areas for the benefit of the nation. They contain some of the finest landscapes in the UK. They are also a nationally important resource attracting approximately 100 million visitors a year. These special areas are an important part of the nation’s heritage where hundreds of thousands of people live and work.
To celebrate National Parks’ Week there is a packed programme of events on all over the county, for more details visit: www.nationalparks.gov.uk
