Whilst on Exmoor why not give your car a holiday and enjoy the National Park at its best? Many of Exmoor’s best loved places can be easily explored by bus, train, bike or foot allowing you to enjoy the views whilst helping to Keep Exmoor Special.

Bus Travel
Much of Exmoor is served by a network of buses. Providing it is safe to do so you can flag a bus down anywhere on the moor, and dogs can often be carried for a small additional charge. Exmoor Coastal Link 300
Following the spectacular coast line of Exmoor from Minehead to Lynmouth
This service, often operated by an open top bus, takes you along the spectacular coastline of Exmoor from Minehead to Lynmouth taking in Porlock and County Gate with its stunning views and variety of walks.

Service 39 follows a similar route from Minehead to Porlock and down to Porlock Weir on the coast.

309 / 310 Service
Barnstaple to Lynmouth
An all year round service linking Barnstaple with the National Park taking in Blackmoor Gate, Parracombe, Barbrook and Lynmouth.

398 Service
Linking Tiverton to Dunster via Exmoor National Park
This daily service starts in Tiverton, 12 miles south of the National Park. On entering the National Park at Dulverton it crosses the moor taking in Wheddon Cross and Timberscombe before reaching historic Dunster. Winsford and Exford are also included on certain buses. This is a year round service running 7 days a week.

Exmoor Explorer 400
A circular route exploring Exmoor’s coast and moorland on a vintage double decker bus.
Running on weekend’s and bank holidays from late May to September, and Tuesdays and Thursdays during the summer holidays the circular route includes Minehead on the edge of the Park, Dunster, Timberscombe, Wheddon Cross, Exford, Porlock and Allerford.

Exmoor Link 401
For walking, sightseeing or shopping from Dulverton to Lynmouth.
Taking in Tarr Steps, Withypool, Exford, Simonsbath and, Watersmeet this new service for 2008 runs on Wednesdays and Saturdays only during the summer holidays.

Moor Rover
A flexible transport service for walkers and cyclists exploring the Coleridge Way.
Operating for a 12 week period from early July every Wednesday, Friday and Sunday this is a demand responsive service and must be booked at least 24hrs in advance by calling 01643 709701. Dogs and bikes can be carried for a small additional charge when booked in advance.

Rail Travel
Although there are no main line stations within Exmoor there are a number of opportunities to use rail transport within the National Park.

West Somerset Railway
This preserved heritage railway runs regularly from Bishops Lydeard (with a bus connection to main line services at Taunton)

Lynton & Barnstaple Railway
Currently running from Woody Bay (just east of Parracombe in the north west of Exmoor) to Killingon Lane this heritage line has ambitious plans to extend the journey in the coming years.

Lynmouth & Lynton Cliff Railway
Linking the twin resorts of Lynton and Lynmouth on the north Exmoor coastline this Victorian cliff railway travels up and down the 852ft line using the power of water from mid February to mid October each year.

Walking, Cycling and Riding
If you want to travel sustainably then public transport isn’t the only option. With a wide variety of public footpaths, bridleways and quiet country lanes Exmoor is ideally suited for walking, cycling and horse riding. For further information visit the Activities page
