| SUITABLE FOR | Non cyclists & families children 4 yrs plus riding solo, bikes with child seats or trailers, touring bikes, bikes for those with disabilities. | Occasional cyclists with some experience of road use or easy trails, reasonably fit families, children 10 plus yrs riding solo, suitable for mountain bikes, hybrids or robust touring bikes. | Regular cyclists with navigational skills and experience of moderate trails. Suitable for off-road quality mountain bikes | Expert mountain bikers with navigational skills who will expect and relish technical challenges |
| TRAIL TYPES | Forestry tracks and some well surfaced unclassified roads. | As ‘green’ plus bridleways and byways & un-surfaced unclassified roads. | Any usable trail with pushing or portage. | Any, but with the expectation of technical riding which could include unforgiving terrain, severe climbs & descents, or considerable distances. |

Note: These grades have been compiled as a guide only. It should be appreciated that no grading system can account for all eventualities. A solitary major hazard (e.g. one steep hill or a difficult junction) will not necessarily raise an otherwise ‘Easy’ route into a ‘Difficult’ one. If in doubt, get off and walk.
