Rights of Way Improvement Plan

The Countryside and Rights of Way Act 2000 placed a duty upon Local Authorities to publish a Rights of Way Improvement Plan (RoWIP) by November 2007. The main objective of the RoWIP is to improve public rights of way and access for all.

Exmoor National Park Authority produced a RoWIP chapter which is contained within the Devon and Somerset County Council’s RoWIP. The Exmoor chapter contains policies and actions that have been developed to improve the way the public rights of way network and access on Exmoor is managed and promoted by the National Park Authority. The National Park Authority has received numerous suggestions for physical rights of way improvements ranging from the replacement of stiles with gates on key links to the creation of completely new routes. We are now working with landowners to improve access where possible and have successfully negotiated a number of high priority improvements.  This element of the RoWIP is ongoing and so suggestions for improvements on the path network are welcomed.  Please complete the RoWIP form to submit your suggestion.
