Barlynch Priory Volunteer Guide

Organisation: Exmoor National Park Authority
This is a volunteer role
Info: Can you help bring a historic site to life for visitors?
Closing date: 17/07/2020
Hours: One day a month May - Sept plus preparation time

We are looking for a volunteer with an interest in history to help look after the remains of St Nicholas Priory at Barlynch, just outside Dulverton on the banks of the River Exe. This small Augustinian priory was founded in 1174-89 and dissolved c.1537. Today the site comprises the remains of two lengths of rubble walling, with other medieval elements being incorporated into the adjoining buildings and garden walls. Your role would be to open the site to the public one day a month May-Sept when you would be on site to help visitors understand the history and significance of the site. Additional task would be to help monitor the priory remains and the vegetation on and around them. See attached role description for full details.
