Christmas shoppers urged to support National Park young rangers

Anyone who is a member of their local Co-op can use their Christmas grocery shop this year to benefit the next generation of young rangers on Exmoor.

Exmoor National Park have teamed up with the Co-op Local Community Fund to raise vital funds towards a four-day Young Rangers residential programme next year, offering the chance to gain new skills and confidence in the countryside and in turn promote wellbeing through time in nature.

Supporting the cause won’t cost you a penny more. Co-op members can select a cause by downloading the Co-op App or signing into their membership account online at coop.co.uk and choosing Exmoor Young Rangers as their cause. Then every time you swipe or scan your membership card when shopping between now and October 2022, the Co-op will give local causes like ours a helping hand.

By taking part, Co-op members have helped raise an impressive £84 million for over 25,000 causes since 2016.

Exmoor National Park Learning & Engagement Officer, Sophie Tyler, who played host to the National Park’s first ever Young Ranger week this Autumn, said: “It’s well known that early life experiences can sow the seeds for a lifelong love of nature. Yet in our busy modern lives time in nature is being squeezed out. Research shows this is alienating young people from the outdoors, just at the time when understanding and valuing the environment is vital to the future of our planet, and our personal wellbeing.

“By signing up as a Co-op member and choosing Young Rangers as your cause, you will be helping us inspire young people to connect with and protect nature, igniting new possibilities for their future lives and careers.”
