Protect our Park
The National Park receives £1 million less grant funding than it did in 2010 and has to make a further £500,000 worth of cuts by 2025, to deal with the spending gap.
Tough proposals will have to be considered, potentially selling land that currently belongs to the nation such as woodland and moorland and impacting the ‘rights of way’ network, visitor and outdoor activity centres and staff who are a vital part of maintaining and protecting park resources and projects.
Sarah Bryan, Exmoor National Park’s Chief Executive says: “These are really difficult times for us. We manage a beautiful landscape working with farmers and the local community, but the Authority now risks having to limit our vital work protecting this cherished landscape and engaging the nation with it. The average cost to visitors per year is relatively very little, but the benefits to physical and mental wellbeing are priceless”.
Every penny helps
It is true that every penny raised through CareMoor will help maintain the work of the National Park in keeping Exmoor special.
Each year over 2 million visitor days are spent on Exmoor. A £1 donation for each day a visitor spends here would more than cover the funding gap and allow the National Park Authority to forge ahead with innovative work to restore nature, combat climate change and ensure the landscape offers opportunities for all.
