National Parks Book Competition Terms and Conditions

1. Giveaway Overview

To commemorate Sir David Attenborough’s 100th birthday, Exmoor National Park Authority is running a social media photo giveaway. Share your favourite photo of Exmoor flora or fauna for the chance to win a copy of The Complete Guide to the UK National Parks by Mike Appleton.

Three (3) winners will be selected by Exmoor National Park Authority from eligible entries submitted during the competition period.

The prize is three (3) copies of The Complete Guide to the UK National Parks by Mike Appleton (one copy per winner).

2. Eligibility

2.1. The giveaway is open to UK residents aged 18 or over, unless otherwise stated by Exmoor National Park Authority.
2.2. Employees (and their immediate families) of Exmoor National Park Authority and anyone professionally connected with this giveaway are not eligible to enter.
2.3. Internet access and a public social media account on at least one of the platforms listed in section 3 are required to enter.

3. How to Enter

3.1. To enter, post a photo of Exmoor flora or fauna on your own social media account and tag Exmoor National Park’s official page on any of the following platforms: Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, Threads or X.
3.2. The giveaway opens at 9.00am on Friday 8 May 2026 and closes at 11.59pm on Friday 8 May 2026. Entries submitted outside this period will not be counted.
3.3. Your account must be public at the time of entry and until winners are announced so that we can view your post. If we cannot view your entry, it will not be eligible.
3.4. Only one (1) entry per person. If you post multiple tagged photos, we will treat your first eligible entry during the competition period as your entry.

4. Entry Requirements

4.1. Your photo must feature flora or fauna found on Exmoor and should be taken within Exmoor National Park.
4.2. Entries must be your own original work. You must be the rights holder of the image you submit.
4.3. Photos must not contain anything unlawful, harmful, defamatory, obscene, offensive, or otherwise inappropriate. Exmoor National Park Authority reserves the right to disqualify any entry that does not meet these requirements.
4.4. If your photo includes another person, you must ensure you have their permission to post it and to allow us to use it as set out in section 7. Do not submit images of children unless you are their parent/guardian and you have the legal right to give this permission.
4.5. No purchase is necessary to enter.

5. Winner Selection

5.1. Exmoor National Park Authority will select three (3) winning entries (“our favourites”) from all eligible entries received during the competition period. Judging will take place the following week and a decision will be made on Monday 11 May 2026. The decision is final.
5.2. Winners will be contacted via direct message and/or by a comment on the winning post from Exmoor National Park’s official account on the platform used to enter (or another reasonable method where direct messaging is not available).
5.3. Winners must respond within 7 days of being contacted and provide a UK postal address for delivery of the prize. By providing their postal address, winners consent to Exmoor National Park Authority sharing this information with the publisher, Bloomsbury, solely for the purpose of dispatching the prize. If a winner does not respond within this time, Exmoor National Park Authority reserves the right to select an alternative winner.

6. Prize

6.1. Each winner will receive one (1) copy of The Complete Guide to the UK National Parks by Mike Appleton (three prizes in total).
6.2. The prize is non-transferable and no cash or other alternative will be offered.
6.3. Prizes will be sent by post to UK addresses only, unless otherwise agreed by Exmoor National Park Authority. The prize will be dispatched by the publisher, Bloomsbury.

7. Use of Entries

7.1. By entering, you grant Exmoor National Park Authority a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to repost, share and display your entry (including your username/handle) on Exmoor National Park Authority’s websites, social media channels and related communications for the purposes of administering and promoting this giveaway and celebrating Exmoor’s wildlife.
7.2. We will aim to credit you when your image is used. However, we cannot guarantee credit where platform functionality or third-party sharing does not allow it.
7.3. This giveaway is not sponsored, endorsed, administered by, or associated with Instagram, Facebook, BlueSky, Threads or X. By entering, you release those platforms from any responsibility related to the giveaway.

8. Liability

8.1. Exmoor National Park Authority accepts no responsibility for entries that are lost, delayed, misdirected, incomplete, corrupted, or not successfully submitted due to technical failures (including social media platform outages, account privacy settings, or other reasons beyond its control).
8.2. Exmoor National Park Authority reserves the right to cancel, suspend, amend, or withdraw this giveaway where it becomes necessary to do so, without prior notice.

9. Data Protection

9.1. Personal data will be processed by Exmoor National Park Authority solely for administering the giveaway (including contacting winners and arranging delivery of prizes) and in accordance with Exmoor National Park Authority’s privacy policy.
9.2. We may request contact details (such as name and postal address) from winners for prize fulfilment. Where the prize is dispatched by Bloomsbury, we will share winners’ postal addresses with Bloomsbury solely for the purpose of delivering the prize. This information will not be used for marketing purposes unless you separately opt in.
9.3. Social media platforms process your personal data under their own privacy policies. Please check the relevant platform’s terms and privacy information.

10. Governing Law

10.1. These terms and conditions are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England and Wales.
10.2. Any disputes arising in connection with this competition shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.

By entering this giveaway, entrants are deemed to have accepted these terms and conditions.
