Exmoor National Park ‘Stars’ in ‘The Salt Path’
Exmoor is a prominent feature in adaptation of best-selling memoir
Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA) welcomes the UK cinema release of ‘The Salt Path’, on Friday 30 May 2025, a poignant adaptation of Raynor Winn’s bestselling memoir. It follows a couple’s transformative journey along the South West Coast Path and the breathtaking Exmoor coastline plays a huge part.
Starring Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs, the film brings to life an inspiring true story of resilience, healing, and the profound connection between people and nature. Much of the screen adaptation unfolds along the Exmoor stretch of the South West Coast Path, where dramatic cliffs, secluded coves, and sweeping sea views offer a backdrop as emotionally stirring as the journey itself.
Dan James, Enterprise & Communications Manager at Exmoor National Park Authority, said:
"We’re delighted to see Exmoor’s stunning coastline featured so prominently in such a moving story. The Salt Path has already inspired thousands to explore the South West Coast Path and we hope the film will inspire more people to connect with nature and discover the benefits of this special landscape for mental and physical wellbeing."
The National Park’s rangers and estate management played a role in the film’s production, working closely with the filmmakers to facilitate access to National Park filming locations and to ensure the natural environment was protected on Exmoor.
Dan continued: “We encourage everyone to explore Exmoor responsibly, stick to marked footpaths and follow the Countryside Code. It’s all about enjoying your adventure whilst leaving no trace, minimising the impact on local communities and wildlife and ensuring you’re prepared. Our rangers and volunteers work all year round with partners such as the National Trust to maintain the Exmoor section of the South West Coast Path as part of a rights of way network of around 1000km. Your support helps us continue this vital work.”
The National Park Authority is keen to emphasise that walking the whole of the Exmoor coast can be a serious undertaking and people need to be adequately prepared. The National Park’s range of Exmoor Strolls, Explorer and Classic walks offer some shorter walks based on and around Exmoor’s rugged coast, taking in many of the places featured in the Salt Path.
