National Park Ambassadors Amplify Youth Voice in Westminster
Young team members from Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA) represented the next generation of National Park leaders at the New Perspectives on National Parks event in Westminster, on Tuesday 16 December
This high-profile afternoon tea reception, hosted by John Whitby MP and featuring Nature Minister Mary Creagh, brought together MPs, youth ambassadors, and National Park advocates to explore how Parliament can help build a strong future for these treasured landscapes.
The event was part of Campaign for National Parks’ New Perspectives project - a pioneering initiative giving young people from diverse backgrounds the opportunity to share their stories and challenge outdated narratives. Youth campaigners have been working closely with Defra to develop a Youth Voice Declaration, signed by Mary Creagh and other attendees. This declaration commits National Park Authorities to making our National Parks greener, wilder, and more accessible to all, ensuring that young people are actively involved in shaping their future.
Logan Schofield is an Apprentice Ranger with Exmoor National Park Authority (ENPA). Logan said: “I am buzzing to represent Exmoor and show that young people want to take action when it comes to issues we face such as biodiversity loss, climate change and accessibility to green spaces like National Parks. This event is a chance to show why it’s so important for young people to get involved, speak up, and help guide the choices that shape our world”
Kimberley Colman is Heritage Ranger for ENPA. She said “ENPA is committed to ensuring that the voices of young people are heard in the decisions that will impact Exmoor for generations to come. It runs a range of initiatives, events and festivals, to involve young people in nature conservation and heritage work. From apprenticeships and volunteering opportunities to Young Ranger activities and educational events. By working together, this will help deliver the Exmoor National Park Management Plan and ensure that the National Park remains accessible and relevant for future generations.
ENPA is also inviting young people aged 18–26 to join its new Youth Board, seeking applicants from all backgrounds with a strong connection to Exmoor. The Youth Board will serve as a platform for young people to collaborate with and influence the direction of Exmoor National Park.
