Dunster Outback Guided Walk

A 4 mile circular walk (c. 2½ hours) through the ages, from the outskirts of Dunster village up to Bat’s Castle with amazing views of moorland, coast and woodland.

First Wednesday of the month: April - October 2025.

Hope Bourne Guided Walk in Withypool

Join us for a wonderful guided walk following the footsteps of novelist and artist Hope Bourne. Explore the Withypool area taking in some of Hope’s favourite views whilst learning more about her incredible life here on Exmoor.
Walk leader Lisa Eden, an Exmoor Society Trustee, oversees the archive and works closely with the Hope Bourne collection and will share some fascinating stories about Hope.
This is a moderate walk with some rough parts underfoot, and steep in places. Possible extension on to Withypool Hill if the weather and time allows. Followed by optional refreshments in Withypool tea rooms or the Royal Oak pub.
– Dogs are most welcome on a lead
– Children welcome (care needed on road section)

West Somerset Mineral Line – Raleghs Cross Long Walk

Come learn more about West Somerset’s Mineral Line with Walk Leader Phil Gannon.
For thirty-two years, Phil worked as a chartered building surveyor in West Somerset until retiring. He has assisted the ENPA with conservation and project work and was formerly a member of the Exmoor Mines Research Group.
Beulah Chapel, the historic Brendon Hill Ghost Village, the Winding House, the full-length incline, Leighland Hamlet, Leigh Barton, and a charming waterfall will all be on your itinerary.
Note that there are strong inclines on this walk.

An Exploration of Moorland Archaeology – Farley Water and Hoaroak Water

Join Walk Leaders Kimberley Coleman and Rob Wilson-North from the ENPA to explore Moorland Archaeology through Farley Water and Hoaroak Water.
Kimberley Colman is the Heritage Ranger on the Exmoor Pioneers programme and will be leading a number of public archaeology projects over the next four years. This is a chance to find out more about what is planned and how you can be involved. Rob Wilson-North is Head of Access, Engagement & Estates and is also a landscape archaeologist.
Exmoor’s moorlands are incredibly rich in archaeological remains dating back 8000 years. This walk, led by two archaeologsts at Exmoor National Park, begins at Brendon Two Gates and heads out over the moors to track down a range of archaeological sites of all periods in the beautiful valleys of Farley Water and Hoaroak Water.

Join Walk Leader Steve Key for a guided walk through Larkbarrow and Three Combes Foot. Steve is a retired Accountant who now spends time on his hobbies including, Astronomy, Exmoor, Geology, Golf, History, Photography & World Affairs. This is his 49th year walking Exmoor. He has several voluntary roles working for ENPA and South West Peatland Partnership. An Introduction to Dry Stone Walling

Do you love nature, being outdoors and getting your hands dirty? If so, this could be for you! Spend a morning learning a new skill in this hands-on 3 hour introduction workshop. You will learn the basic principles of how to build a traditional dry stone wall and/or retaining wall, using local stone, and how it will benefit wildlife and support a range of creatures and insects.
Dry stone walling is a positive and calming outdoors experience, and this workshop offers a great opportunity to learn a new skill, in the fresh air, surrounded by nature and wildlife. The course covers basic construction techniques for a Devon dry stone wall. You can work at your own pace, with plenty of opportunity for discussion, then stand back and admire your craftsmanship and enjoy a slice of cake and a hot drink for your hard work!
The workshop price includes full entry into Quince Honey Farm on the day of the workshop, so why not take the opportunity to join our tours and activities and find out about the wonderful world of honeybees too.
