This self‑led trail is designed to guide you around some of the rare, unusual, and historically significant trees that help make Dunster Castle & Gardens such a special place. Pick up your free trail map from the Visitor Reception building, then set off at your own pace. Perfect for families, nature‑lovers, and curious wanderers alike, this gentle trail invites you to slow down, look up, and see Dunster Castle from a fresh perspective. Normal admission applies to non-members.

Dawn Chorus Bird Walk

Join Exmoor Ranger Charlotte Wray for an early morning walk at North Hill, meeting before sunrise we will walk a circular route first listening for bats with bat detectors and then hearing the beginnings of the dawn chorus including whitethroat, dartford warbler and linnet. Bring binoculars. We will follow uneven paths so appropriate footwear and clothing required.

** CANCELLED BY EVENT HOST** Celebrate the Exmoor Nature Festival with us at Calvert Devon for a welcoming wildlife and orienteering walk around beautiful Wistlandpound Reservoir.

Discover local habitats, spot seasonal wildlife and learn simple navigation skills as we explore the reservoir together. This relaxed, guided session is perfect for curious minds of all ages — whether you’re new to orienteering or simply love being outdoors.

After the walk, join us in our Wild Activity Garden for an engaging nature talk, where we’ll share insights about Exmoor’s landscape and the species that call it home.

The event is fully accessible, with step-free routes and inclusive facilities, so everyone can enjoy time in nature together.

Rockpooling with the Rangers

As part of our Nature Festival join Exmoor National Park Rangers in the rockpools of Lynmouth. Together we will search for chitons, crabs, sea anemones and find out more about the amazing wildlife that lives on the seashore.
The rockpooling site is very exposed so please dress for the weather. Water shoes or wellies encouraged. Nets, buckets and knowledge provided. Attendance is free but if you would like to donate to CareMoor you can do so at Lynmouth National Park Centre opposite.

Porlock Open Gardens

The annual Porlock Open Gardens event, where community and visitors come together to share their love of gardening and gardens which are not usually open to the public. Many of our gardens have wildlife and nature at their heart. Weekend tickets cost £8.00 per person – sorry but no dogs are permitted.
