In 1858,Charles Frederick Bailey inherited the magnificent Gothic Romantic mansion his father had built in a breathtaking spot at the end of the Valley of Rocks. This young man, in possession of a sizable income, a large house and a new wife occupied himself with establishing his estate – and enjoying his new hobby of photography. His recently rediscovered photographs reveal a delightful glimpse of life in a Victorian country house – a magic window into a different age.
